Welcome to the RTG-ReMPro

DFG Research Training Group -
Regulation of Membrane Proteins (RTG-ReMPro)

The RTG-ReMPro (GRK 3085) is a Research Training Group funded by the DFG (German Research Foundation). The researchers of the RTG-ReMPro aim to understand how posttranslational modifications (PTMs) influence the plasticity of membrane proteins for the regulation of cells, specialized tissues and body homeostasis. Dysregulation of membrane proteins can lead to pathological conditions. Our vision is that the RTG-ReMPro will lead to a better understanding of the diverse modifications of membrane proteins, by analyzing posttranslational events that regulate the function of receptors, proteases, channels, transporters and adhesion molecules.

The participating research groups from the pre-clinical institutes of the Medical Faculty of Kiel University (CAU) and two institutes of clinical theory of the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) represent a special type of consortium that connects basic biochemical research with physiology and disease. Therefore, the graduate program for doctoral researchers of the RTG-ReMPro is interdisciplinary structured and ideally suited for the training of doctoral students from natural sciences and medicine

ReMPro Methods Workshop

16.-25.03.2026

The first cohort of doctoral researchers in natural sciences completed an eight-day lab rotation across the institutes of the RTG ReMPro.

During this intensive practical course in latest technologies, all participants gained valuable insights into the experimental expertise of the contributing research groups. This experience establishes a strong foundation for effective collaborative exchange.

ReMPro at the Winter School 2026 in Tiers

11.-15.03.2026

A team of doctoral researchers and postdocs from the RTG ReMPro presented their scientific results at the Winter School 2026 on "Proteinases and their Inhibitors" in Tiers.

In addition to skiing in their leisure time, in particular Kira Bickenbach and Hannah Helfritz achieved great success, receiving the awards for ‘Best Chair’ and ‘Best Talk’, respectively.

The graduate program of the RTG-ReMPro supports doctoral researchers and postdocs in natural and medical sciences at the highest international level. The RTG aims for the promotion of doctoral researchers and early career scientists in a stimulating scientific environment of different disciplines from basic research with clinical application potential.

The doctoral training includes a structured program based on a supervision strategy and a qualification program with several complementary elements, such as a lab rotation through all participating institutes, a scientific seminar series with speakers from academia and industry, individual soft skill courses and workshops.

The graduate program is supported by many years of expertise within five (pre)clinical research institutes of Kiel University (CAU) and the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH):
