DFG Research Training Group -
Regulation of Membrane Proteins (RTG-ReMPro)
The RTG-ReMPro (Graduiertenkolleg: GRK 3085) is a Research Training Group funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation). The RTG-ReMPro aims to understand how posttranslational modifications (PTMs) influence the plasticity of membrane proteins for the regulation of cells, specialized tissues and body homeostasis.
Dysregulation of membrane proteins can lead to pathological conditions. The contribution of the medical research institutes of the RTG-ReMPro represents a special type of consortium that connects basic biochemical research with physiology and disease. Our vision is that the RTG-ReMPro will lead to a better understanding of the diverse modifications of membrane proteins, by analyzing posttranslational events that regulate the function of receptors, proteases, channels, transporters and adhesion molecules.

ReMPro at the Winter School 2026 in Tiers
11.-15.03.2026
A team of doctoral researchers and postdocs from the RTG ReMPro presented their scientific results at the Winter School 2026 on "Proteinases and Their Inhibitors" in Tiers.
In addition to skiing in their leisure time, in particular Kira Bickenbach and Hannah Helfritz achieved great success, receiving the awards for ‘Best Chair’ and ‘Best Talk’, respectively.

Young Investigator Club
20.02.2026
In this session of the Young Investigator Club, doctoral researchers of the RTG-ReMPro elected their representatives for the next 2 years.
Congratulations to Caroline Rott and Benjamin Mandzak for being elected as the ReMPro graduate board. Caroline will furthermore take over the function of the trusted counselor in the RTG.

Kick-off-meeting
30.01.2026
After the official launch of the RTG-ReMPro in October 2025, the start of the RTG was celebrated at the Kick-off-meeting in the Institute of Biochemistry.
Following an introduction by Prof. Becker-Pauly, the spokes person of the RTG, project objectives and methodologies were presented together by doctoral researchers and project leaders.

Training of doctoral researchers
The program for doctoral researchers of the RTG-ReMPro is interdisciplinary structured and ideally suited for the training of doctoral students from natural sciences and medicine.
The program is supported by many years of expertise within five (pre)clinical research institutes of Kiel University (Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, CAU) and the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH):
The graduate program of the RTG-ReMPro supports students in natural and medical sciences at the highest international level aiming for the promotion of doctoral researchers and early career scientists in a stimulating scientific environment of different disciplines from basic research with clinical application potential.
The doctoral training further includes a structured program based on a supervision strategy and a qualification program with several complementary elements, such as an annual methods workshop, scientific seminars, soft skill courses and workshops.
